Today I tried MAC (measurable, actionable, competent) technique to come up with schedule that would lead me to my goal practically, making a realistic progress step by step.
Measurable: make your goal and progress a measurable one. (eg, I will climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. To do so I will climb 10km everyday for 9 days) If you cannot measure you’re success, that is not a great goal to aim towards, just like a politician would do.
Actionable: to make the progress towards the goal realistically achievable. State the process clearly. Tasks that are easy enough to get done. It’s good to think of multiple ways you can achieve the result you want (eg, you walk yourself, ask someone to carry you, or use a helicopter?). Be creative.
Competent: you have to have what it take to achieve the goal. (Daigo talks about wether or not the goal aliens with your value as well. The meaning of you achieving it.)
As stated in the last blog, one of my main goal I would like to achieve is to first “have a project finished”. Let’s decide now that this will be a 100 illustrations. The outcomes I would like are “sparking my creative passion, joy, a portfolio I can be proud of, satisfaction of finishing it, fans / followers that would love my work and some recognition from people that work in creative field.”
It’s a little impossible to measure the passion and joy of doing it so I’m going to use numbers of followers as a measuring tool. This is my first proper online project so I don’t want to break my heart by setting the bar too high and not making it… so I will aim for 5 new followers per post. So 500 followers after the 100 posts on Instagram. And if 5% of that follow could be from someone from creative field, that’ll be amazing for me! I will try posting on Twitter, Facebook, and SNS called Line (like Facebook in Japan) in English and Japanese but that’s more for seeing what gets more engagement so I’m not really planing on adding these to the measure. Though I would like to get similar outcomes.
For me to post every day for 100 days, I will first decide to stick with illustrating a topic of scientific life hacks to become positive minded. I will list up 100 little hacks people can easily follow. I will come up with a character, simple enough that I won’t tire myself out for drawing it everyday, but cute enough that people will be willing to follow it for the information too. Then choose hacks 10 and illustrate them on the day 1 and day 2, write texts for each explaining how the hack would help people on the day 3, then find useful hashtags to get to the people who might be interested in this project and schedule them to be posted everyday on the day 4. I will repeat this 4 day process for 10 times. I will adjust my hashtags, the time to post them and try out Insta story etc to see if I can figure out the best options to achieve my goal. I believe I am competent enough to follow the steps I set out for myself.
